Mathieu Schreyer
Mathieu Schreyer began his life in Pontoise, just outside of Paris, France. His nomadic childhood led him through places from Morocco and Tunisia to Kuwait and Hong Kong. Mathieu soaked up the native musical vibes along the way. Mathieu’s family genuinely loves music and they cultivated his passion for it early on. He made his first DJ appearance at his own 9th birthday party, playing a selection of his sister’s 45’s. The seeds were sown for a lifelong immersion in music.

After DJing for many years in his native France, Mathieu ultimately settled in Los Angeles in 1995. He immediately began DJing at LA's notable spots such as Louis XIV, Indochine, Little Temple and Hyde Lounge. Mathieu’s eclectic style of mixing everything from Afro Beat to Broken Beat established him as a resident DJ along with Garth Trinidad at Zanzibar, the club that earned LA global musical respect by inviting top notch guests from all over the world including DJ Spinna, Ron Trent, Bugz In The Attic, DJ Harvey and James Lavelle.

Mathieu has since shared the stage with a laundry list of notable artists and DJS: Ben Harper, Meshell Ndegeocello, DJ A-Trak, Egyptian Lover, Peanut Butter Wolf, Questlove of the Roots, Dam Funk, J Rocc and Massive Attack.

His striking good looks have landed Mathieu spots modeling for Apple, Stussy, Triple 5 Soul, Converse, Joe's Jeans, Cadillac and a featured TV and print campaign for Target.

In December 2006, Mathieu joined the DJ staff of indie radio’s most highly regarded station 89.9 KCRW. When longtime friend Jason Bentley became Station Director in 2009, he gave Mathieu the creative freedom to craft his own show. Every Friday from Midnight to 3am, Mathieu plays a unique selection of songs that reflect his worldwide musical tastes.

Mathieu now holds weekly residencies at the legendary Bar Marmont and downtown’s most chic haunt The Edison. He is also the Music Curator for the city’s most revered hotel, the Chateau Marmont. He is in constant demand to DJ industry parties for fashion, film and entertainment industry elite.

Beyond DJing, Mathieu is also a prolific Remixer and Producer. His credits include work with artists Steve Spacek, N’Dea Davenport, Tricky, Syreeta, and Leon Ware. He has also worked on movie projects with The White Stripes and acclaimed director Michel Gondry for his film Human Nature. More recently, Mathieu scored a Jazz soundtrack alongside Robin Hannibal for the forthcoming Hotel Noire. As Mathieu's collaboration with soul singing legend Leon Ware flourished, it inspired him to start his own label. Quires Chicle has a simple mission: to release music Mathieu believes in with his heart and soul. The first release for his imprint is from Leon Ware. Future releases scheduled by Steve Spacek, Saul Williams, Ed Vallance, Robin Hannibal under his Bobby moniker and Orfeo will further cement the label's reputation for releasing authentic quality music.

Ever the Renaissance Man, Mathieu started a clothing brand in 2010 called Unknown Soldier. It is sold around in choice boutiques around the world: Collette in Paris, Opening Ceremony in the U.S and an array of taste-maker shops as far afield as Russia, Canada, Denmark, Spain and Japan.
